Memberships and Associations
The CICF is an active member of the Calgary Professional Arts Alliance, Calgary's Arts Education Action Committee (CAEAC), the Canadian Children's Festivals Association (CCFA), International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY), the Asia Pacific Performance Network (APPN), Volunteer Calgary, Volunteer Canada, and is a resident company at the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts.
As a senior member of the Canadian Children's Festival's Association (CCFA), the Festival's Artistic Director, Kate Newby meets with other Canadian festival presenters twice annually to discuss potential touring partnerships, sponsorship initiatives, administration, programming, marketing, educational materials, and audience development.
In 2007, Ms. Newby was invited by the International Performing Arts for Young People (IPAY) to sit on the selection jury for its annual international performing arts showcase. After completing a three-year term in 2009, Ms. Newby has agreed to commit to another three-year term as a member of the IPAY showcase selection committee. The committee meets annually to review over 200 submissions from international artists and is responsible for selecting a variety of performances to be presented at the annual IPAY showcase. Showcase attendees represent over 1500 theatre producers, festival presenters, agents and educators interested in TYA work.
In 2009, Ms. Newby was invited to join the Asia Pacific Performance Network (APPN) as the representative for Canada's TYA companies and festivals. The APPN consists of international presenters and creators from Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Canada. APPN meetings occur once a year and are held during an international festival so APPN representatives can experience the work being created in a particular region. This unique opportunity will open doors for international partnerships and presenting opportunities for Canadian children's festivals and TYA companies.
The CICF collaborates with several arts and education companies, as well as, representatives of both school boards to share arts initiatives and to advocate for a greater arts component in school curricula. As a leading presenter in theatre for young audience programming, the CICF offers support and mentorship to emerging festivals, theatre organizations and independent artists.
