Volunteer Opportunities for Grades 9 to 12
Volunteer opportunities may vary slightly each year as various activities are added to the Festival schedule. Following are some examples of opportunities that were available for the 2011 Festival. Please return here in February 2012 for updates.
Clay For Kids And Adults Too!!
Volunteers will assist our patrons in working with clay and adding to the creation of a huge castle through Festival week!
Portable Art Activities
This is a large activity area where volunteers guide and encourage children's creativity with pre-planned crafts including mask-making.
Hands-On-Playground
The Hands-on-Playground contains many wonders such as Duplo. Connectors and games galore. Volunteers in this area will engage young people in the variety of games that this area has to offer. Lots of energy and enthusiasm is necessary!
Tunes Tent presented by Alberta Milk
Volunteers in this area will help solo performers or groups pick out a song, or maybe belt out a tune themselves.
YouthInk Comics Corner
Back by popular demand! Volunteers will assist young people with the creation of their very own comic books.
Face Painting by Chicklit In The Whale presented by EXPRO
Our giant inflatable whale is host to professional face painters who will transform our young patron's faces into an artistic masterpiece in just minutes. Volunteers will be there to help guide young patrons through the process, as well as assist the face painters. Volunteers will also help with the set-up and tear down of the whale each day.
Nylon Zoo presented by EXPRO
In the Nylon Zoo you will assist children in dressing up in brightly coloured costumes and leading them in a parade around Olympic Plaza.
Drop-In Workshops
Volunteers in this area will assist professionals in aiding youth in juggling, percussion and theatre games drop-in workshops happening right on the Festival outdoor site.
The Inflatable Maze
This activity is a ten-minute challenge the whole family can enjoy! Volunteers will help guide patrons along as they solve and discover their own personal quest to find their way out. Volunteers will help to ensure safety and will be positioned in the entrance, middle and exit of the maze. Volunteers will also help with the set up and tear down of the maze each day.
Amazing Artists presented by Room To Grow
In this activity, young children will be introduced Realism, Abstract Expressionism, Cubism and Pointillism through the works of great artists of the past. Volunteers will assist children in experimenting with these techniques to create their own masterpieces.
imagineers! presented by Prospect
Volunteers will assist the young imagineers in designing a t-shirt or tote bag, personalizing their own Polaroid photo, painting a colourful flower pot, creating a miniature painting or joining in a Mural Party.
Butterfly Bottles presented by Liliana's Ecorations
Volunteers will assist Ecorations in helping young children to create butterflies out of plastic bottles, all the while learning the importance of the 3 R's- recycle/reuse/reduce.
Imagination Building presented by The Telus World of Science
Volunteers will assist children and families in the building of a collaborative structure using innovative building materials.
Wax Hands
A Festival favorite of both volunteers and patrons alike. Volunteers will help children cast their hands in wax and dye it with funky colours.
Ambassador Crew
Meet buses and guide groups to theatres to ensure they get to performances on time.
