Welcome Educators!

The 2010 Calgary International Children's Festival is proud to offer your students a supportive learning environment where they are encouraged to dream, discover and develop. To support your teaching in the classroom, we have provided curriculum connections to the Alberta Program of Studies for students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. In addition to curriculum connections, teacher resource materials for particular performances can be downloaded from calgarychildfest.org and will enhance your students' pre and post Festival learning experiences. The wealth of creative learning potential at the 2010 Festival is inspiring and the level of artistic excellence is truly breathtaking.

Now it's time to turn the page and discover a world of educational enrichment, cultural diversity and creative exploration. Your students will love you for it!

Sincerely,
Kate Newby

Did You Know...

  • Through the generous support of sponsors, individual donors and public funders the Festival manages to maintain school ticket prices at $7.50 / ticket. The actual cost of a non-subsidized ticket would be over $40.

  • Festival artists provide age recommendations for their performances. Children who are younger than the recommended age usually become disinterested. Artists always like their audience to enjoy the experience!

  • The Festival has presented award winning theatre, dance, and music from more than 60 countries over a 24 year period.

  • Free activities on the Olympic Plaza cost $100,000 a year to present.

  • The Festival has been awarded Calgary's Child Magazine's Parents' Choice Award as "Best Festival" for 12 consecutive years.

  • The Calgary International Children's Festival is a not-for-profit arts organization that has five full-time staff and eight part-time staff who join the team each spring.

  • The average cost to bring one international company to perform at the Festival is $30,000.

  • Each year, the Festival's Artistic Director travels the world to evaluate 150+ performances before choosing the very best theatre, music, and dance to be shared with Calgary's young audiences.

  • Over 600 volunteers help make the Children's Festival one of Calgary's most celebrated community events.

  • Each year students from Grade 9 to Grade 12 volunteer at the Festival through school leadership programs.
