Professional Development Master Classes

University of Calgary In conjunction with the University of Calgary's Department of Drama, these classes are offered to teachers, theatre professionals, and anyone interested in exploring various aspects of the performing arts. All master classes are for ages 18 and up and are conducted by professional artists. Cost is $29.34 per person. Maximum 25 participants. Pre-registration is required by calling the Festival Box Office at 403-294-7482.

Participants will explore the signature choreography of Kaha:wi Dance Theatre and Santee Smith's contemporary Aboriginal dance style. The workshop will incorporate Aboriginal dance and cultural sources of inspiration for movement language. Dancers will explore the use of breath, body awareness, centre of gravity, contraction and release, a dynamic range of physicality, musicality, performance quality, the use of energy, and individual and ensemble expression.
